Gudja United hit five past Tarxien

Gudja United bounced back from last week’s defeat to Floriana as they registered a most comfortable 5-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts Jesmond Zammit’s side in joint-fourth place. For Tarxien, who were coming from a 5-0 win over Senglea, this was a reality check as they suffer the fourth defeat in six matches.

Gudje took the lead on the 26th minute when off an assist by Augusto Caseres, Aidan Jake Friggieri beat the Tarxien goalkeeper with a low shot from the edge of the area.

Seven minutes later, Gudja were awarded a penalty after Brandon Muscat handled the ball inside the area and from the penalty spot, Yuri de Jesus Messias converted.

Substitute Tensior Gusman increased the lead on the 76th minute as he headed the ball home from a corner.

Two minutes from time, Gabriel Mensah had a first attempt blocked by a defender but managed to place the ball at the back of the net off the rebound.

One minute in added time, James Brincat scored a fifth goal for Gudja beating Daniel Fernandes with a fine shot from inside the area.
