Joint-leaders Hibs, Gzira seek wins

Joint BOV Premier League leaders Gzira United and Hibernians will be all out to claim the three points on Saturday as they take on Sirens and Santa Lucia in two of the four matches in programme at the Hibernians Stadium and the National Stadium.

Birkirkara face Gudja United and Sliema Wanderers meet Lija Athletic in the other two matches.

All matches are being played behind closed doors. but fans are able to watch games thanks to the live-streaming service being offered by the Malta Football Association at https://live.mfa.com.mt/ apart from the usual two weekly matches which are broadcast on TVM 2 and/or TSN.

In the first match at the Hibernians Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Hibs host Sirens. The Paolites are unbeaten in seven matches, winning three out of the last four matches, earning a point in a 2-2 draw with Hamrun last week. Sirens, on the other hand, are fifth from bottom on six points. They won just one match out of the seven played but held Valletta in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday.

In the second match, Sliema Wanderers take on Lija Athletic. The Wanderers lost 2-3 to Gzira in their last outing to fall into third place, one point behind the two joint-leaders. This defeat was the second in four matches for Andrea Pisanu’s side. Lija, on the other hand, lost their last five matches and remain joint-second from bottom on four points.

In the first match at the National Stadium, Birkirkara face in for Gudja United. Playing just six matches, the Stripes collected just four points in a win over Hamrun and a draw with Lija, losing to Valletta, Mosta, Zejtun and Sliema. Gudja, on the other hand, are currently fifth on fourteen points, ten ahead of Birkirkara. They won two out of the last four matches, being held in a draw by Mosta in their last outing.

Francesco Verde is ruled out through suspension for Birkirkara.

In the second match, Gzira United meet Santa Lucia. The Maroons are unbeaten in seven matches, defeating Sliema 3-2 in their last match to move top. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, are currently joint-eighth on eleven points. They won three out of the last five matches, losing only to Mosta.

Jackson Mendoza is ruled out through suspension for Gzira while Santa Lucia could not count on the suspended Jamie Zerafa.
