Floriana pile more misery on rivals Valletta

Floriana returned to winning ways as they registered a fine 3-0 win over Valletta at the National Stadium on Sunday.

A win which puts the Greens alone in seventh place on sixteen points, three ahead of Valletta despite having a game in hand. Valletta, for the first time under the leadership of interim coach Gilbert Agius, have now gone four matches without a win as they suffer a second successive defeat.

Floriana were a better side right from the start, going close after just four minutes when Paiber served Ulises Arias whose conclusion was deflected by Cini into a corner.

The Greens took the lead on the 25th minute when Kristian Keqi received a through pass by Ulises Arias and advanced into the area before hitting low past goalkeeper Yenz Cini.

Triston Caruana had a freekick saved by Akpan on 57 minutes but a minute later, Keqi went close with an angled shot from the right.

Floriana doubled the score on the 72nd minute when substitute Jan Busuttil released Ulises Arias inside the area and the Argentine slotted past Cini.

Four minutes later, Valletta were reduced to ten men after Joseph Zerafa was sent off as he received a second yellow card for a foul on Marcelo Dias.

Three minutes from time, Floriana sealed the issue with a third goal when off an assist by Jan Busuttil from the right, Kristian Keqi hit low past the Valletta goalkeeper.
