BOV Amateur League: Mgarr held by Marsaskala in Group A

Leaders Mgarr United were held in a 2-2 draw by Marsaskala in a match from Group A of the BOV National Amateur League at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Joseph Paul Zammit put Mgarr ahead on the 18th minute but Abubakar Bello-Osagie equalised thanks to a penalty on the 34th. A penalty by Gordon Saliba five minutes from the end of the first half restored the lead for Mgarr but Anthony Ewurum restored equilibrium on the 68th.

At the Luxol Stadium, Zurrieq defeated Ta’ Xbiex 4-0 to close in on Mgarr. Jean Paul Formosa gave Zurrieq the lead on the 26th and two minutes later, Andre Joe Cutajar doubled the score. Erik Pietribiasi increased the lead on the 44th with Cutajar adding another twelve minutes in the second half.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, a goal by Cleiton Jose Hinrichs handed Mellieha a narrow win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s.

A goal by Michael Grima on the 44th and a penalty by Ikechukwu Igwemeke on the 47th handed Gharghur a 2-0 win over Ghaxaq at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

In Group B, Msida St. Joseph are the new leaders after they defeated Zabbar St. Patrick 4-2 at the Sirens Stadium. Giovanni Galea scored twice on the 4th and 34th and Timothy Thomas increased the lead to 4-0 thanks to goals on the 42nd and 46th. Zabbar reduced the gap with goals on the 50th by Christian Desira and Evair Grech on the 87th.

In Group C, Kirkop United beat Kalkara United 4-1. Daniel Claridge put Kirkop ahead on the 25th but an Alan Tabone penalty levelled matters three minutes later. Lincoln Micallef scored twice on the 40th and 42nd with Kenneth Ekezie adding another three minutes from time.
