BOV Challenge League: Marsa, Pembroke held in draws

Leaders Marsa and second-placed Pembroke Athleta were both held in draws in two of the four matches from the BOV Challenge League in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

At the Centenary Stadium, Vittoriosa Stars and Marsa shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Renan Sgaria Farias converted a penalty on the 26th but Philip Chircop equalised five minutes in the second half. Lydon Micallef made it 2-1 on the 89th minute but a few seconds later, Vittoriosa restored equilibrium thanks to Liam Gauci.

Pieta’ Hotspurs rescued a point thanks to a dramatic 3-3 draw with Pembroke Athleta at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Peter Paul Sammut put Pembroke ahead on the 13th but James Scicluna converted a penalty to equalise. Sammut restored the lead for Pembroke on the half-hour and six minutes later, Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos extended the lead. However goals by Diego Segura on the 73rd and 96th restored equilibrium.

A Bradley Schembri penalty on the 23rd and a goal by Jairo Andres Tenorio on the 88th handed Naxxar Lions a 2-0 win over Qormi at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Mqabba and Zebbug Rangers shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
