Rabat Ajax were promoted to the BOV Challenge League after defeating Kirkop United 2-1 after extra-time in the final of the BOV National Amateur League promotion play-offs at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Aidan Azzopardi put the Magpies ahead three minutes in the second half but two minutes in added time, Dylan Lee Tanti converted a penalty for Kirkop to level matters and force extra-time.

The game seemed heading towards the penalty shoot-out but one minute from the end of the second half of extra-time, Nestor Luis Silva Canas notched the winner.

Apart from Rabat, the other teams to win promotion to the Challenge League are group winners Mgarr United, Luqa St. Andrew’s and Melita.
