Haley Bugeja, the women’s national team and Devis Mangia claimed three awards in the SportMalta Awards – Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali 2021.
Sixteen year old Haley Bugeja, who plays for Italian Serie A side Sassuolo and the Malta women’s national team who obtained a record ten points in the UEFA Women’s EURO 20222 Qualifying Group B, was voted Sportiva tas-Sena.
The women’s national team, who throughout 2020, won registered a 2-1 win over Georgia at Ta’ Qali and defeated Georgia 4-0 and Israel 2-0 away from home, claimed the Tim tas-Sena award. The team finished fourth in a group which featured Denmark, Italy, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Israel and Georgia and climbed sixteen places in the FIFA Women’s Ranking for 2020.
On the other hand, Malta national team coach Devis Mangia was voted Kowċ tas-Sena after leading the national team to a fine run of seven positive results. In fact, following a narrow defeat to the Faroe Islands, Malta earned a point in a 1-1 draw against Latvia, followed by a 2-0 win over Gibraltar in a friendly match, a goalless draw in Andorra, a 1-0 win away from home against Latvia, a 3-0 win in a friendly match against Liechtenstein, a 3-1 win over Andorra and a 1-1 draw against the Faroe Islands.
Mark Marlow, president of the Malta Employees Sports Association (MESA) and the Head of Futsal and Beach Soccer at the Malta FA, won the People’s Choice Award at the 2021 SportMalta Awards L-Ghazliet Sportivi Nazzjonali.
