Juventus Women prove too strong for Birkirkara

Italian champions Juventus defeated Birkirkara 12-0 in a friendly match at the Campo Ale&Ricky in Vinovo on Sunday. This match was the first outing for the bianconeri, now led by coach Joe Montemurro.

Thirty-one Fartaria, who has played in the top division of Portugal with Atlético Ouriense for the past ten years, has joined the Birkirkara contingent in Turin for a training camp.

The Stripes who are preparing for the upcoming UEFA Women’s Champions League commitments in mid-August where they will face Glasgow City in the semi-final and BIIK Kazygurt or SK Slovan Bratislava in the final or match for third place, had new signing Flavia Fartaria and Charlene Zammit making their first appearance for the club.

Valentina Cernoia opened the score on the 8th minute and Cristiana Girelli converted a penalty on the 15th. Arianna Caruso made it 3-0 on the 19th and a minute later, Lisa Boattin scored the fourth. Barbara Bonansea scored the fifth goal on the 24th and Boattin made it 6-0 on the 36th. Six minutes from the end of the first half, an Annahita Zamanian freekick was deflected by Stephania Farrugia past goalkeeper Janice Xuereb for an own goal.

Zamanian scored Juventus’ eighth goal five minutes in the second half and two minutes later, Agnese Bonfantini increased the lead further. Andrea Staskova scored a tenth goal on the 56th with Cristiana Girelli scoring the eleventh goal on the 72nd and Staskova adding another two minutes later.
