Birkirkara and Gzira United will be hoping to overturn their first leg defeats as they play the second legs of the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round main path.
The Stripes host Olimpija Ljubljana at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, while at 20:00, Gzira United entertain HNK Rijeka at the HNK Rijeka Stadion.
Losing by just one goal to Olimpija Ljubljana last week in the Slovenian capital, Birkirkara need to win by two goals to secure a place in the third qualifying round where they would probably face Santa Clara of Portugal after they defeated Shkupi of North Macedonia 3-0 in the first leg away from home.
They already reached that stage in the UEFA Europa League 2016/17 when they eliminated Siroki Brijeg and Hearts, losing out to Krasnodar. Although beating Olimpija Ljubljana by two goal is no easy task, it is not impossible.
Meanwhile in Rijeka, Gzira United have an even more difficult task after losing 0-2 at the Centenary Stadium last week. Therefore to qualify for the next round, they need to win by three goals.
The clash with Hajduk Split two years ago comes to mind as Gzira had lost 0-2 at home but then bounced back with an impressive 3-1 win in Split to qualify on the away-goals rule. Repeating such a feat is no easy task but Darren Abdilla’s side will definitely be all out to give Rijeka a hard time and possibly obtain a positive result.
The team which qualifies is set to face Hibernian of Scotland after they defeated Santa Coloma of Andorra 3-0 in the first leg.
