Kercem Ajax kept the pace with joint-leaders Nadur Youngsters and Ghajnsielem as they defeated Sannat Lions 2-1 in one of the four matches from the BOV Gozo Football League First Division at the Gozo Stadium.
Jason Theuma put Kercem ahead on the 14th minute and although Henry Fabian Solis equalised on the 27th, Andrew Mizzi made it 2-1 on the half-hour. Kercem held on till the end despite having two players sent off.
On Saturday, Ghajnsielem beat Xewkija Tigers 2-0 thanks to an Igor Nedeljkovic penalty before the end of the first half and a goal by Shaun Attard on the 65th.
Goals by Judivan Flor da Silva and Joseph Zammit on the 48th and 60th respectively handed Nadur Youngsters a 2-0 win over SK Victoria Wanderers on Sunday while on Monday, the derby between Oratory Youths and Victoria Hotspurs ended in a goalless draw.
Nadur and Ghajnsielem lead the way with 16 points, followed by Kercem on 15, Xewkija 7, Sannat and Victoria Hotspurs 5, Oratory 4 and SK Victoria Wanderers 0.
Meanwhile the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division kicked-off on Saturday as Qala Saints defeated Xaghra United at the Kercem Arkafort Stadium thanks to a goal by Joseph Buttigieg on the 24th minutes.
In another match, Zebbug Rovers beat Gharb Rangers 3-0 thanks to a penalty by Eman Bugeja on the 24th and goals by Matias Psaila Camilleri on the 73rd and Orlando Atzori on the 93rd.
