Floriana, Gzira hope to return to winning ways

Floriana and Gzira United cross swords in a clash between two teams eager to close in on the top two, Balzan target a second win on the trot as they face Gudja United while Sliema Wanderers and Mosta chase precious points in a direct clash in the three matches in programme on Sunday.

In the first match at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, Balzan take on Gudja United.

With Paul Zammit leading them as their new coach, Balzan will be hoping to register a second successive win following a surprise 2-1 win over Gzira United last week. Lying in joint-seventh place, Balzan could move fourth with a win. Gudja, on the other hand, are ninth on seven points, two behind Balzan, and are eager to bounce back after suffering back-to-back defeats to Birkirkara and Hamrun.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 17:00, Floriana face Gzira United.

Both Floriana and Gzira will be aiming to return to winning ways on Sunday as the Greens were held in a 1-1 draw by Mosta and the Maroons lost to Balzan last week. Gzira won just one out of the last three matches while Floriana won just one out of the last four games. The Greens are currently sixth on 10 points, one ahead of Gzira and with a win would join Valletta in third place. The Maroons, on the other hand, would move joint-fourth with Hamrun in case of a win.

Floriana will be without the suspended Matias Garcia and Augusto Caseres.

At the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 19:00, Sliema Wanderers meet Mosta.

After claiming just four points from the first seven matches thanks to four draws, including last week’s goalless draw with Santa Lucia, Sliema will be aiming for a first win on Sunday from the clash with Mosta. Mosta, on the other hand, are unbeaten in three matches following a 2-1 win over Balzan, a 2-2 draw with Santa Lucia and a 1-1 draw with Floriana. They are currently joint-second from bottom with Santa Lucia, two points ahead of the Wanderers.

Danny Holla and Dejan Vukovic are ruled out for Sliema as they serve a one-match ban. Mosta could not count on the suspended Jonas Rodriguez Ekani.
