BOV National Amateur League: Marsaskala make it five wins in a row

A goal on the 5th minute by Joseph Chetcuti handed leaders Marsaskala a narrow win over Mellieha at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday to maintain a perfect record in Group B of the National Amateur League.

On the other hand, at the Sirens Stadium, Mtarfa defeated Zabbar St. Patrick by the odd goal in five.

Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza put Zabbar ahead on the 8th minute but goals by Nestor Luis Silva Canas on the 21st and Jean Paul Formosa on the 34th turned the score in Mtarfa’s favour. Mifsud Triganza converted a penalty eight minutes in the second half to equalise. However Jean Paul Formosa notched the winner on the 65th.

Marsaskala lead the way with 15 points, followed by Zurrieq on 12, Mtarfa and Zabbar 9, Mellieha and Mdina 6, Qormi 4,Sta. Venera 3 and Kirkop 1.

In Group A, Attard returned to winning ways as they came from behind to beat Xghajra Tornados 4-1 at the Sirens Stadium.

Izuchukwu Owen Anyaso put Xghajra ahead on the 36th but Lydon Cuschieri equalised on the 52nd, Adrian Paul Sammut made it 2-1 on the 73rd with Nicholas Schembri and Nigel Spiteri adding another two goals on the 84th and 88th.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Gharghur defeated Ghaxaq 2-0 thanks to goals by Jayden Aquilina on the 37th and Warren Zerafa on the 79th.

Gharghur lead the way with 14 points, followed by Kalkara on 12, Birzebbuga 8, Attard 7, Msida 6, Xghajra and Ta’ Xbiex 5, Siggiewi 4, Dingli 2 and Ghaxaq 1. Attard had nine points deducted.
