Santa Lucia stun Birkirkara to register first win

Santa Lucia registered their first win as they beat Birkirkara 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

A win which enables them to leapfrog Sliema Wanderers and Gudja United to put them third from bottom, just one point behind eighth-placed Gzira United and Mosta. Birkirkara, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to, at least temporarily, move on top the BOV Premier League table.

Santa Lucia took the lead on the 25th minute when off an Alan da Silva Souza corner from the right, Gianmarco Conti headed home past goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes.

On the 34th minute, Santa Lucia doubled the score when Vito Plut was brought down inside the area by Enrico Pepe and from the penalty spot, Alan da Silva Souza converted.

Three minutes from the end of the first half, Enrico Pepe received a second yellow card and was therefore sent off by referee Philip Farrugia.

Nine minutes in the second half, Victor Luis Prestes Filho was also sent off, this time for Santa Lucia, after receiving a second yellow card.
