Second half goals hand Hamrun Spartans the three points

Hamrun Spartans scored twice in the second half to beat Sliema Wanderers 2-0 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Spartans, therefore, registered a second win on the trot to move fourth on 18 points, two behind second-placed Valletta and one behind Birkirkara.

Sliema, on the other hand, remain anchored at the bottom of the table with four points from eleven matches.

Following a goalless first half, the Spartans took the lead six minutes in the second half when Faissal El Bakhtaoui had a shot blocked by a defender and off the rebound, Matthew Guillaumier hit hard in the top right corner, giving goalkeeper David Cassar no chance.

Substitute Franklin Sasere doubled the score on the 71st minute when he received a long pass and advanced upfield before beating the Sliema goalkeeper with a low shot from the edge of the area.
