Rabat Ajax and St. Andrews registered important wins in the battle against relegation in two matches from the BOV Challenge League at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
In Group A, Rabat defeated Vittoriosa Stars 3-0. A great goal by Gaston Poncet Otero put the Magpies ahead on the 12th minute and four minutes in the second half, Zachary Tanti doubled the score. Poncet Otero sealed the issue with a third goal on the 90th.
Naxxar lead the way with 24 points, followed by Pembroke on 20, Zejtun 17, Melita 14, Marsaxlokk 10, San Gwann 9, Lija and Rabat 8, Mqabba 7, Vittoriosa 6 and St. George’s 1.
In Group B, St. Andrews defeated Mgarr United 4-1. Alexander Nilsson put the Saints ahead on the 8th minute and two minutes later, Joseph Farrugia converted a penalty to double the score. Nilsson added another on the 19th and although Jean Borg reduced the gap on the half-hour, one minute from time, Ross McParland sealed the issue with a fourth goal for St. Andrews.
Pieta’ lead the way with 19 points, followed by Tarxien on 16, Zebbug 14, Marsa 13, Swieqi 12, Fgura 11, Qrendi 10, St Andrews and Senglea 9, Mgarr 7, Luqa 6.
