BOV Challenge League: Marsaxlokk move fourth in Group A

Marsaxlokk registered a third win on the trot in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Vittoriosa Stars 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Jeremy Delmar put the Southseasiders ahead on the 15th minute and two minutes from the end of the first half, Xuan Cappellino doubled the score. Three minutes in the second half, Tejumola Ebenezer Ayorinde converted a penalty to reduce the gap for Vittoriosa but Terence Vella made it 3-1 on the 76th.

At the Centenary Stadium, goals by Neil Falzon on the 17th and Gabriel Nazareno Mannino on the 23rd handed Mqabba an important win over San Gwann.

Naxxar and Pembroke lead the way with 24 points, followed by Zejtun on 20, Marsaxlokk 16, Melita 14, Mqabba 11, San Gwann 10, Lija 9, Rabat 8, Vittoriosa 6 and St. George’s 1.

In Group B, St. Andrews defeated Qrendi 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium thanks to goals by Jamie Sixsmith on the 2nd minute and Santiago Martinez on the 16th.

At the Centenary Stadium, a goal six minutes in added time by Alan Abdel Rahman enabled Luqa St. Andrew’s to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Mgarr United. Harry Wood had put Mgarr ahead on the 18th.

Pieta’ and Tarxien lead the way with 19 points, followed by Zebbug on 17, Marsa 14, Swieqi and Qrendi 13, Fgura and St. Andrews 12, Senglea 10, Mgarr 8 and Luqa 7.
