Hibernians seek win to extend lead

Leaders Hibernians will be aiming at maintaining their unbeaten record as they take on champions Hamrun Spartans in the big match from the BOV Premier League on Sunday. Birkirkara eye a win from the clash with bottom-placed Santa Lucia while Sirens and Balzan target precious points from this mid-table clash.

In the first match at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 11:30, Hibernians host Gudja United.

Lying seven points ahead of second-placed Hamrun Spartans, the Paolites seek another three points from this clash. They are still unbeaten after twelve matches with eight wins and four draws, winning three out of their last four matches, defeating Gzira 3-1 in their last outing. Gudja, on the other hand, are joint-second from bottom on 11 points. They are coming from two positive results after beating Mosta 3-0 and holding Sirens in a goalless draw.

Gudja will be without the suspended Tensior Gusman and Farid Romero Zuniga.

In the first round, Hibs defeated Gudja 2-1.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Floriana take on Sliema Wanderers.

The Greens share third place with Valletta and Birkirkara, one point behind Hamrun and eight behind leaders Hibernians. They held Hibernians in a goalless draw and defeated Santa Lucia 3-1 in their last two outings. Sliema, on the other hand, lie at the bottom of the table, seven points behind Mosta, Gudja and Santa Lucia, failing to earn any points from their last four outings.

Floriana’s Christian Rutjens and Ulises Arias and Sliema’s Julius Bliek are all serving a one-match ban.

In the first round, the two teams shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Balzan face Valletta.

The Citizens are currently third together with Floriana and Birkirkara, one point behind Hamrun and eight behind leaders Hibernians. but earned just one point from their last two outings following a goalless draw with Birkirkara and the narrow defeat to Hamrun. Balzan, on the other hand, are now eighth but have a game in hand compared to most teams. Following a most impressive 6-1 win over Sirens, they lost 1-2 to Hibernians and were held in a 3-3 draw by Santa Lucia.

In the first round, Valletta defeated Balzan 1-0.
