BOV National Amateur League: Gharghur move five points clear

Leaders Gharghur moved five points clear in Group A of the BOV National Amateur League after defeating Kalkara United 3-1 in a top-of-the-table clash at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

An own goal on the 37th minute paved the way for Gharghur and one minute from the end of the first half, Davide Mula doubled the score. Julian Zammit reduced the gap for Kalkara seven minutes in the second half but Ikechukwu Igwemeke made it 3-1 on the 66th.

An Andrea Cutajar penalty on the 58th minute handed Birzebbuga St. Peter’s a narrow win over Xghajra Tornados at the Sirens Stadium while Msida St. Joseph defeated Siggiewi 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by Segun Abdullahi Busari on the 43rd and Isaac Chircop on the 93rd.

Gharghur lead the way with 21 points, followed by Kalkara on 16, Birzebbuga 15, Attard 13, Msida 11, Dingli 10, Xghajra 9, Siggiewi 7, Ta’ Xbiex 5 and Ghaxaq 4. Attard had nine points deducted.

In Group B, Zabbar St. Patrick bounced back from the defeat to Zurrieq as they beat Mellieha 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium.

Isaac Abela scored twice on the 5th and 14th with Andie Sammut reducing the gap on the 64th by converting a penalty.

On the other hand, a brace by Zack Camilleri on the 65th and 69th handed Sta. Venera Lightnings a 2-0 win over Qormi at the Luxol Stadium.

Marsaskala lead the way with 22 points, followed by Zurrieq on 19, Mtarfa on 16, Zabbar 13, Mdina and Mellieha 9, Sta. Venera 7, Qormi 6 and Kirkop 2.
