BOV Challenge League: Pieta’ hit five past Luqa

Pieta’ Hotspurs joined Zebbug Rangers on top Group B of the BOV Challenge League after defeating Luqa St. Andrew’s 5-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Abdeen Temitope Abdul handed the Hotspurs a two-goal lead with goals on the 28th and 40th Teppei Iida increased the lead on the 50th with James Scicluna scoring twice on the 63rd and 88th for a final 5-0 score.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, a goal by Alan Schembri Wismayer handed Swieqi United a narrow win over Senglea Athletic.

Pieta and Zebbug lead the way with 24 points, followed by Tarxien on 22, Marsa 20, Swieqi 19, Qrendi 17, Fgura and St. Andrews 16, Senglea 12, Mgarr 10 and Luqa 7.

In Group A, Vittoriosa Stars won the Cottonera derby as they beat St. George’s 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium.

Gianluca Sultana put the Saints ahead on the 9th but Tejumola Ebenezer Ayorinde equalised thanks to a penalty on the 26th and Denilson Borg Castaldi notched the winner nine minutes from time.

Marsaxlokk defeated Rabat Ajax 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Larens Vella put Rabat ahead on the 40th but just before the end of the first half, Terence Vella converted a penalty to level matters. Augusto Rene Caseres notched the winner on the 71st.

Naxxar lead the way with 31 points, followed by Pembroke on 30, Zejtun 24, Marsaxlokk 19, Lija and Melita 18, Mqabba 16, San Gwann 14, Vittoriosa 13, Rabat 9 and St. George’s 4.
