Floriana held in 2-2 draw by Hamrun

Floriana and Hamrun Spartans shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a clash between the two teams lying in second and third place at the National Stadium on Sunday.

A draw which leaves Gianluca Atzori’s side, who were coming from four successive wins, three points ahead of the Spartans but now stand four points behind leaders Hibernians.

The Greens took the lead on the 12th minute when off a cross by Eugeniu Rebenja from the right, Ryan Camenzuli slotted the ball past goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

Floriana were unlucky to hit the woodwork with a Brandon Paiber freekick, deflected by Bonello early in the second half but on the hour, Ailton Jorge dos Santos Soares equalised for the Spartans, heading the ball home off a cross by Luke Gambin.

The Greens regained the lead on the 65th thanks to Rumyan Hovsepyan who concluded a solo effort by dribbling a number of defenders before beating Bonello with a diagonal shot from the left.

However one minute later, Hamrun restored equilibrium thanks to Franklin Sasere who hit low past goalkeeper Georgi Kitanov from inside the area after Joseph Mbong headed the ball down and Faissal El Bakhtaoui sent the Nigerian striker through.

Four minutes from time, Floriana were reduced to ten men after Oualid El Hasni received a second yellow card for a foul just outside the area.
