Mosta win entertaining clash against Balzan

Mosta returned to winning ways as they defeated Balzan 3-2 in an entertaining clash at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts the Blues just two points behind ninth-placed Gudja United, three ahead of Santa Lucia and five ahead of Sliema Wanderers. Balzan, on the other hand, suffer the third defeat in eleven days to stay eighth.

Balzan took the lead on the 8th minute when Bojan Kaljevic intercepted a back pass by Jonas Rodriguez Ekani and advanced before rounding the goalkeeper and depositing the ball inside the empty net.

Ten minutes later, Mosta equalised when they were awarded a penalty after Dennis Antwi was brought down inside the area by goalkeeper Jake Galea and Clayton Failla converted.

On the 34th minute, Mosta went 2-1 ahead courtesy of Luis Carlos Riascos Torres who slammed the ball home off a Clayton Failla freekick from the left.

But three minutes from the end of the first half, the Mosta defence lost ball possession and Suleiman Jalu received a pass and advanced before unleashing a powerful shot which hit the crossbar with the ball ending at the back of the net.

Johann Bezzina was unlucky to hit the crossbar for Mosta on the 79th with a powerful shot from outside the area.

However on the 84th minute, a brilliant solo effort by substitute William Donkin saw the player receive the ball in midfield and dribble a number of players before beating Galea with a fine shot from inside the area.
