BOV Challenge League: Marsa defeat Tarxien to move third

Marsa moved third in Group B of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Luca Brincat scored the all-important goal on the 57th minute.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Qrendi and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. This result means that apart from Senglea Athletic and Luqa St. Andrew’s, Mgarr United were also relegated from Group B.

Sebastian Perdomo Esquivel put Qrendi ahead on the 4th minute but Johan Alberto Castano equalised on the 21st.

Zebbug and Pieta’ lead the way with 36 points, followed by Marsa on 35, Tarxien 34, Fgura 28, St. Andrews 25, Qrendi and Swieqi 21, Senglea 12, Mgarr 11 and Luqa 10.

Meanwhile in Group A, Mqabba moved an important step towards securing their status as they beat St. George’s at the Centenary Stadium. A result which condemned Vittoriosa Stars to playing in the National Amateur League.

Luka Mijic put Mqabba ahead on the 41st minute and although Gianluca Sultana equalised just before the end of the first half, Ronald Maklysten Melo Costa restored the lead on the 68th and Mijic added another on the 77th with Fabrice Hounkpe sealing the issue with a goal on the 90th.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zejtun Corinthians moved second courtesy of a 3-1 win over Melita. Antoine Attard put Melita ahead on the 5th minute. Alan Abela equalised on the 36th. Samba Tounkara made it 2-1 on the 61st and four minutes later, Renan Sgaria Farias added another.

Pembroke lead the way with 41 points, followed by Zejtun on 37, Marsaxlokk 35, Naxxar on 34, Melita 30, San Gwann 26, Lija 24, Mqabba 20, Rabat and Vittoriosa 13 and St. George’s 4.
