Early goal hands Gudja United a top-six spot

Gudja United secured a place among the top six teams for the second phase of the BOV Premier League along with Floriana, Hibernians, Birkirkara, Hamrun Spartans and Gzira United as they defeated Mosta 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium.

Thane Micallef’s side needed a win from this direct clash between two teams who were still hoping for a place among the top six but to achieve this, Gudja had to hope Sirens fail to beat Gzira United. Gzira, in fact, beat Sirens 2-1 and therefore Gudja can now celebrate a historic achievement by being among one of the top six teams, automatically securing their Premier League status for another season.

Mosta, on the other hand, will start the second phase on 25 points, two behind Sirens and one behind Valletta and two ahead of Balzan

Gudja scored the all-important goal on the 3rd minute when a Matias Muchardi freekick from the left created havoc inside the area with the ball reaching Llywelyn Cremona who tapped the ball home from close range.
