Valletta scored three goals in the second half to start the second phase on a positive note as they returned to winning ways, beating Sirens 3-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday in a match from the Play-Out final round.
The Citizens therefore move on top the Play-Out table two points ahead of Sirens. The St. Paul’s Bay side have now gone six matches without a win.
Following a goalless first half, Valletta took the lead on the 50th minute when Promise Oluwatobi Emmanuel Akinpelu’s powerful drive was partially saved by goalkeeper Jonathan Debono and Caio Prado placed the ball at the back of the net from close range.
Eight minutes later, the Citizens doubled the score thanks to Mario Fontanella following a long through pass.
Three minutes in added time, Valletta scored a third goal thanks to Triston Caruana whose powerful drive gave goalkeeper Debono no chance.
