The most impressive result in the Women’s League this week was recorded by Swieqi United who managed to defeat Raiders Lija on their third attempt this season. The Owls produced a commanding showing to win 4-1 and join Mġarr United in second place with 34 points.
Also, Kirkop United’s clinical forward Rodianne Zerafa produced a poker as she scored all goals for her team in the 4-0 win against San Ġwann.
Next week, Swieqi and Mġarr will cross swords at the Mġarr Ground in a match that can determine who seals the second place this season.
Against Raiders, Billy Mock’s side forged ahead after just four minutes through Jessica Dimech. Before half-time, Swieqi extended their lead to three goals thanks to quickfire goals from Shona Zammit and Jade Flask. Brazilian forward Fernanda Peinado grabbed the fourth to net her seventh of the season.
Michela Bonello Ghio was the scorer for Raiders Lija, scoring the consolation goal in the 71st minute.
Birkirkara defeated Mtarfa 8-0 to chalk up their 16th win of the season while topping the offensive record with 74 goals, three more than Swieqi.
Alishia Sultana and Raina Giusti scored a hat-trick each. Sultana (16 goals) moved just two goals behind Mġarr United’s Francesca Chircop who is the leading scorer of the league.
The other goals for the Stripes came through Ruth Steer Chetham and a Julianne Camilleri own goal.
Kirkop’s striker Zerafa opened her game’s account against San Ġwann inside the first three minutes. She then scored three goals after the interval – between the 58th and 72nd minute – to hand the Reds their sixth win of the season as they move to 18 points.
