Mosta beat Valletta to secure Premier League status

Mosta secured their Premier League status as they defeated Valletta by the odd goal in five in a match from the BOV Premier League Play-Out final round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

The Blues went out in search of the three points they needed and managed to score three during the first half. However, Valletta reduced the gap with two goals in the second half.

Mosta took the lead on the 13th minute when off a Clayton Failla freekick from the right, Rafael Morisco headed the ball home past goalkeeper Guarnone.

On the 25th minute, Mosta doubled the score thanks to Geoffrey Acheampong whose low shot from outside the area beat Guarnone after taking advantage of a short clearance by the Valletta goalkeeper.

The Blues made it 3-0 on the 45th minute when off a cross by Failla from the left, Christ Evo Ememe slotted the ball past the Valletta custodian.

Valletta reduced the gap twelve minutes in the second half courtesy of Mario Fontanella who hit home from close range after a cross from the right was partially saved by the goalkeeper and Promise Akinpelu hit the crossbar off the rebound.

Substitute Haris Dilaver scored a second goal for the Citizens eight minutes from time, placing the ball at the back from close range, after a Mario Fontanella effort from the edge of the area hit the upright.
