Zabbar St. Patrick end season on a high

National Amateur Cup winners Zabbar St. Patrick ended the season on a high as they won the second honour in a week, defeating BOV National Amateur League champions Zurrieq on penalties in the National Amateur Super Cup at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

David Oliveira Souza put Zabbar ahead after just three minutes and although Giovanni Galea equalised on the 31st, towards the end of the first half, Kyle Tanti made it 2-1 for Zabbar. Andre Joe Cutajar made it 2-2 thirteen minutes in the second half but on the hour David Oliveira Souza restored the lead for Zabbar. Ivan Bojovic levelled matters for Zurrieq on the 67th but was then sent off. However the result at the end of the ninety minutes was still 3-3 and the match went into extra-time.

Five minutes in the first half of extra-time, David Oliveira Souza put the Saints 4-3 ahead but Andre Joe Cutajar restored equilibrium seven minutes in the second half of extra-time.

The penalty shoot-out therefore had to determine the winner with Carl Magro, Terence Agius, Dion Fava and David Oliveira Souza scored for Zabbar and Keith Muscat and Melvin Busuttil scoring for Zurrieq. Miguel Simiana and Giovanni Galea missed for Zurrieq.
