UEFA Women’s Champions League: Sarajevo prove too strong for Birkirkara

Women’s League champions Birkirkara lost 0-4 to SFK 2000 Sarajevo of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the semi-final of Group 7 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League at the Cluj Arena in Cluj-Napoca on Thursday.

Minela Gačanica put the Bosnia and Herzegovina champions ahead on the 15th minute and five minutes in the second half, Alisa Spahić doubled the score. Gačanica scored again on the 69th with Alma Krajnić adding another nine minutes from time.

Sarajevo, who set a new outright record of 20 straight appearances in the competition, will now face the winner of the clash between Olimpia Cluj of Romania and Glentoran of Northern Ireland in the final while Birkirkara will play the loser in the match for third place.

Birkirkara coach Jose Borg named three new signings in the starting line-up, namely Italian midfielders Marta Grosso and Gaia Milan and Canadian forward Sofia Ioderosa.
