Birkirkara, Floriana seek second win

Birkirkara and Floriana will be aiming for a second win on Saturday as three matches from the BOV Premier League are in programme at three different venues.

At the Centenary Stadium, Marsaxlokk will be making their first outing as they face Mosta.

The Southseasiders had their match-day 1 fixture against Hamrun Spartans postponed and will be therefore making their first appearance in the Premier League since 2011/12 after being promoted from Group A of the Challenge League last season.

Led once again by Pablo Doffo, Marsaxlokk were the most active side in the transfer market signing no less than seventeen new players, namely goalkeeper Jose Maria Gobbi, Ayrton Attard, Dejan Vukovic, Jeferson Dos Santos Mendes, Santiago Ferraris, Santiago Moracci, Wellington Valentim de Souza, Oscar Matias Carniello, Daniel Agius, Tiago Adan Fonseca, Alfred Effiong, Edafe Christopher Uzeh, Timothy Tabone Desira, Leandro Aguirre, Conor Borg, Dale Mifsud and Ryan Tonna.

Retaining their Premier League status should be their main objective.

Their opponents on Saturday, Mosta, disappointed in their first outing as they lost 1-2 to Gudja United and are therefore looking forward to earning their first points.

Clayton Failla should be back for Mosta after serving a one-match ban but Roderick Briffa is suspended. Marsaxlokk could not count on the suspended Leandro Aguirre.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Floriana take on Sirens.

The Greens defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 2-0 in their first outing and will be all out to claim another three points from this clash with Sirens. The St. Paul’s Bay side, on the other hand, seek their first points after losing 0-2 to Birkirkara last week.

At the National Stadium, Birkirkara will be chasing their second win in the clash with Zebbug Rangers.

The Stripes scored twice in the second half to defeat Sirens 2-0 last week while Zebbug lost 1-3 to Balzan after having a player sent off.

The Stripes should have Jean Paul Farrugia making his debut after joining the club on loan from Sliema Wanderers. Zebbug, on the other hand, could not count on the suspended Leandro Almeida.
