Johann Bezzina hands Balzan first defeat

Gudja United maintained their unbeaten record as they defeated Balzan 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday to move second in the BOV Premier League table.

This win, in fact, puts Gudja on the 7-point mark, two behind Birkirkara and one ahead of Balzan who had won their first two matches.

Gudja had one change from the team which drew with Gzira as Johann Bezzina replaced Matias Muchardi. Karl Micallef, who joined the club earlier this week, was included as a substitute. Balzan coach Oliver Spiteri named an unchanged side but had Diver Torres and Alex Satariano making their debut as they were included as substitutes.

Johann Bezzina exchanged the ball with Samuel Gomes on the left with the latter serving him in an ideal position inside the area to hit home past goalkeeper Jonathan Debono on the 33rd minute to hand Gudja the three points.
