Newly-promoted Zebbug Rangers registered their first win as they defeated Santa Lucia 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
It was a deserved win for Brian Spiteri’s side as they held the initiative for long stretches, scoring twice during the second half. For Santa Lucia, this was the third defeat in as many matches.
Both teams had one change from their last outing as Leandro Almeida replaced Randall Vella while Diego Francarolli Pacheco was preferred to Reon Saito.
Ironically, Santa Lucia created the best chance during the first half with Diego Francarolli Pacheco testing Jamie Azzopardi with a header two minutes from the end of the first half but Azzopardi saved, aided by the foot of the upright.
Zebbug took the lead two minutes in the second half when Charles Lokoli Ngoy pounced on a throw by goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi and dashed past the defenders to hit low past goalkeeper Dylan Ciappara.
Five minutes in added time, substitute Miguel Perez Jimenez doubled the score hitting home from close range following an assist by Lokoli Ngoy.
