First-half goals enough for Spartans

Hamrun Spartans scored twice in the first half to beat neighbours Pieta’ Hotspurs 2-0 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Spartans therefore registered their second win in as many matches while the Hotspurs suffered their third defeat.

Pablo Sanchez started in goal for Hamrun while Ederson Bruno Domingos, Luke Montebello and Matteo Fedele replaced Dodo, Roko Prsa and Juan Corbalan. For Pieta’, Reeves Cini replaced Dele Alampasu in goal while Sheldon Mizzi, Kurt Briffa and Ange Belibi replaced Jake Ghio, Terence Agius and Yuto Morita

Hamrun took the lead on the 11th minute when off a Ryan Camenzuli cross from the left, Jonny Robert do Nascimento Torres hit home from close range.

Nine minutes later, the Spartans doubled the score courtesy of Elvis Mashike who headed home off a Matthew Guillaumier effort.

Late in the game, Hamrun were awarded a penalty after Ailton Soares was brought down inside the area but his attempt from the penalty spot hit the foot of the upright.
