National Amateur League: Birzebbuga, Mellieha register wins

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Mellieha claimed the three points on Friday in two matches from Group A of the National Amateur League at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

In the first match, Birzebbuga defeated Santa Venera Lightnings 4-2. Andrely Kouessabio Makela converted a penalty on the 25th to put Birzebbuga ahead and although Miguel Grima equalised on the 33rd, they regained the lead thanks to another goal by Kouessabio five minutes later. One minute in the second half, Ryan Micallef extended the lead and despite a Yuya Emura goal on the 53rd which reduced the gap for the Lightnings, Christopher Cutajar sealed the issue for Birzebbuga on the 61st.

Meanwhile Mellieha collected their first points in a 4-1 win over Ta’ Xbiex. Joseph Steven Tinoco Serrano put Mellieha ahead on the 23rd and although Johan Grech equalised three minutes in the second half, Mellieha regained the lead through Malcolm Vella Vidal on the 51st, extending the lead through Alexander Akl on the 55th and once again thanks to Vella Vidal on the 59th.

Senglea and Zabbar lead the way with 12 points, followed by Mgarr and Birzebbuga on 7, Kalkara, Sta. Venera and Qormi 6, Xghajra 5, Mellieha 3, Ta’ Xbiex and Pembroke 0.
