Hamrun Spartans made it five wins in a row as they defeated Floriana 2-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The Spartans therefore take sole leadership ahead of Birkirkara’s clash with Valletta on Sunday. Floriana, on the other hand, suffer a second defeat in three matches.
Branko Nisevic made four changes for Hamrun as Ederson Bruno Domingos, Elvis Mashike, Rodrigo Callegari and Matteo Fedele made way for Juan Corbalan, Ailton Soares, Roko Prsa, Ognjen Bjelicic. Floriana coach Gianluca Atzori, on the other hand, named Zachary Cassar, Eden Hershkovich and Jan Busuttil in the starting line-up, replacing Mattia Veselji, Carlo Zammit Lonardelli and Emiliano Callegari.
Hamrun had a perfect start, taking the lead on the 3rd minute when Jonny, served on the right by Steve Borg, rounded a defender and served Roko Prsa who intelligently passed the ball to Matthew Guillaumier whose low effort beat goalkeeper Georgi Kitanov.
The Spartans doubled the score on the 76th minute when Elvis Mashike intercepted a pass by Adam Magri Overend for Kitanov and exchanged the ball with Luke Montebello before slotting past the Floriana goalkeeper.
