Frank Schembri names women’s Under-19 squad ahead of League A mini-tournament

Malta Women’s Under-19 national coach Frank Schembri named a twenty-strong squad ahead of the UEFA Under-19 Championship League A commitments in Group A7 in Portugal between October 5 and 11.

Malta made it to League A in Round 2 after finishing second in League B Group B1 on level points with group winners Northern Ireland but with an inferior goal difference but still manage to secure promotion as the best runner-up. Malta drew 1-1 with Northern Ireland, defeating Azerbaijan 2-1 and Faroe Islands 3-2 in the other two matches.

In Group A7, Malta will be facing Norway on Wednesday, Belgium on Saturday and Portugal on Tuesday 11. The first match will be played at the Complexo Desportivo da Tocha while the other two will be played at the Estadio Municipal Sergio Conceicao in Coimbra.

The squad includes Maya Cachia who is now playing for Venezia, Alexandra Gatt who plays for Durham Cestria in England and Michela Ionadi who is on the books of Milton Soccer Club in Canada.
