Futsal: Swieqi United return with a bang

Swieqi United made a comeback in the local futsal scene as they saw off the University of Malta 7-4 in the first round of matches from the Enemed Futsal League.

It was a well-contested match with University of Malta who at times enjoyed the lead but with Swieqi capitalizing and taking advantage of some defensive frailties of their opponents. Both sides are expected to be battling for the final honours alongside Luxol St Andrews.

Brayan Stiven netted a hat-trick for Swieqi with Justin Theuma hitting the target twice. Emerson Molina and an own goal completed the score for the Owls. University of Malta had Leo Muscat scoring twice while Steven Camilleri and Andre Cachia were also on the mark.

Żurrieq Futsal obtained a 4-2 win over St George’s Futsal. The latter were trailing 4-0 down as in the end they scored two goals to reduce the score but it was too late in the day. Kurt Darmanin. Boycho Marev, Gabriel Ghigo and an own goal scored the goals that mattered for Żurrieq while St George’s reduced the arrears through Sean Parnis and Karl Schembri.

Marsaskala won the battle of the south against Fgura United 3-2 in a well-fought encounter. Fgura were always in front but a late rally by the Southsiders helped them get the points that mattered.
