Mosta returned to winning ways as two goals early in the second half paved the way for a 3-1 win over Valletta at the National Stadium on Saturday.
For the Blues, this was the fourth consecutive positive result which enables them to climb into the sixth place. Valletta, on the other hand, continue to share the ninth place as they suffered the fourth consecutive defeat.
Mosta coach Joseph Grech named an unchanged side following the draw with Floriana while Thane Micallef made three changes for Valletta as Shaun Dimech, Oke Akpoveta and Llywelyn Cremona replaced Enzo Ruiz, Bradly Kamden and Ulrich N’Nomo.
Following a goalless first half, Mosta took the lead on the 50th minute when off a cross by Boubakary Diarra from the left, Michael Chidera Okoh tapped the ball home from close range.
Five minutes later, the Blues doubled the score courtesy of veteran Roderick Briffa, served by Christ Ememe on the right, who beat goalkeeper Guarnone with a diagonal shot from outside the area.
Six minutes from time, Valletta were awarded a penalty but Brandon Paiber’s effort was partially saved by Akpan. However the ball reached Oke Akpoveta who drilled the ball home with a shot from outside the area.
Eslit Sala was then sent off for Valletta after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession.
However one minute in added time, Mosta made it 3-1 thanks to Michael Chidera Okoh who hit home from close range following a good run on the left flank by Precious Tenebe.
