Marsaxlokk hand Gudja first defeat

Marsaxlokk joined Floriana in the eighth place as they defeated in-form Gudja United 2-1 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Monday.

Gudja, therefore suffered their first defeat after earning fourteen points from the first six matches in four wins and two draws.

Both coaches Pablo Doffo for Marsaxlokk and Andrea Agostinelli for Gudja named unchanged sides as both were coming from draws – a 1-1 draw for Gudja with Birkirkara and a 2-2 draw for Marsaxlokk against Santa Lucia.

Following a goalless first half, Marsaxlokk took the lead twelve minutes in the second half when they were awarded a penalty after Farid Romero Zuniga floored Santiago Ferraris inside the area and from the penalty spot, Leandro Aguirre converted.

On the 71st minute, the Southseasiders doubled the score when off a Daniel Agius corner from the right, Kristian Keqi headed home past goalkeeper Glenn Zammit.

Gudja pulled one back when Andre Prates sent the ball through with Samuel Gomes da Mata serving Ahinga Bienvenu Selemani who beat the Marsaxlokk goalkeeper with a low shot from the left.
