Santa Lucia register first win

Santa Lucia registered their first win as they came from behind to beat Pieta’ Hotspurs 2-1 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday in a clash between the bottom two teams in the table.

This win enables Santa Lucia to join Zebbug Rangers on the four-points mark as they leapfrog Pieta’ who now lie at the bottom of the table with three points.

Pieta’ took the lead on the 20th minute when off a throw in by Alan Schembri Wismayer, Ganiu Ogungbe headed the ball into the path of Jake Ghio who placed the ball at the back of the net.

However, three minutes later, Santa Lucia levelled matters thanks to a low effort by Nicholas Pulis from outside the area which beat goalkeeper Dele Alampasu following a deflection by a defender.

Three minutes from time, Santa Lucia notched the winner courtesy of Francisco Rodrigues Farias who hit home from close range after the Hotspurs’ defence failed to clear a cross by Dexter Xuereb from the right.
