The Malta FA together with the Richmond Foundation this morning kicked off “Being There”, a 12-month project aimed at promoting inclusion and mental wellbeing by engaging several children in football and above all fun. The project is one of the beneficiaries of support from the UEFA Foundation for Children.
Malta FA General Secretary Angelo Chetcuti expressed the Association’s commitment towards similar initiatives providing so much value to their beneficiaries.
“Football is an excellent leveller between people; it is a means through which barriers are overcome. That is why it is part of the mission of the Association to use the game as a tool to create the right conditions for people to engage with each other.”

This is why the Malta FA acts also through organisations such as the Richmond Foundation, who can contribute with their expertise and access to those in need. Chetcuti emphasised the need to foster awareness and knowledge amongst peers, parents, and coaches dealing with children with different abilities.
Stephania Dimech Sant, CEO of Richmond Foundation explained that the project will touch the lives of approximately 600 persons. “Even if this project can improve the life of one or two persons it would have been a success,’ she said. “The project will see 150 coaches, 200 parents (10 sessions with parents in nurseries) and 250 youngsters (16 sessions) trained and it will include also football sessions with children in residential care.” Dimech expressed the appreciation of the Richmond Foundation for the support being given through the project.
This is the second project presented by the Malta FA which has been chosen for support by the UEFA Foundation for Children. It complements a number of other socially-oriented initiatives taken forward by the Inħobb il-Futbol Foundation.
Former National Team coach Ray ‘Żażu’ Farrugia and Orlando Pride and Malta National Team player Haley Bugeja are the two ambassadors endorsing the project.
The Richmond Foundation provides a number of services in pursuit of mental wellbeing by offering all-round support to anyone experiencing mental health problems and the people who live and work with them.
