Tricky Mosta test for Birkirkara

After dropping seven points in the last three matches, Birkirkara face a tricky test as they take on Mosta in one of the four BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday. In other matches, Balzan face Valletta, Santa Lucia take on Sirens and Zebbug Rangers meet Floriana.

In the first match at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, Balzan meet Valletta.

Eight points separate the two teams as Balzan share fifth place with Gudja United on the 14-points mark while Valletta are currently tenth on six points. Balzan are unbeaten in three matches following a 3-2 win over Pieta’ and two goalless draws with Sirens and Floriana. Valletta, on the other hand, earned just one point from the last five matches after holding Gzira United in a goalless draw following four successive defeats. In six matches, they scored just one goal.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, Birkirkara face Mosta.

After five wins out of five, Birkirkara collected just two points in the last three matches following draws with Gudja United and Hamrun Spartans and a shock defeat to Marsaxlokk. The Stripes will therefore be all out to return to winning ways as they now lie in third place, one point behind Gzira and five behind leaders Hamrun. Mosta, however, aim to collect more precious points as they share the seventh place with Marsaxlokk, six points behind the Stripes. Although the Blues are coming from a 1-2 defeat to Hamrun, they earned eight points from the previous four matches, beating Pieta’ and Valletta, obtaining draws with Sirens and Floriana.

At the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 17:30, Santa Lucia cross swords with Sirens.

One point separates the two teams as Santa Lucia are joint-second from bottom on four points and Sirens fourth from bottom on five. Santa Lucia registered their first win last week as they beat Pieta’ Hotspurs 2-1. This followed a draw with Marsaxlokk and a narrow defeat to Hibernians. Sirens, on the other hand, are the only team still chasing a first win as they earned their points in five draws. In fact, in three out of the last four matches, they held Mosta, Balzan and Zebbug in draws.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 17:30, Zebbug Rangers face Floriana.

Five points separate the two teams as Floriana lie in a lowly ninth place on nine points and Zebbug share the second place from bottom with Santa Lucia. Zebbug are coming from a 3-3 draw with Sirens in their last outing. Floriana, on the other hand, lost two out of the last five matches to Hamrun and Gzira, defeating Valletta and earning points in draws with Mosta and Balzan.
