Mosta bounced back from the narrow defeat to Hamrun Spartans as they came from behind to beat Birkirkara 2-1 at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday to join Gudja United in fifth place.
For Birkirkara, this was the second successive defeat as they have now gone four matches without a win.
Ironically the Stripes took the lead after just six minutes thanks to Simon Zibo who managed to beat Ini Etim Akpan following a throw in from the right.
Birkirkara could have also doubled the score with a Yannick Yankam low effort which hit the foot of the upright but a few minutes later, Clayton Failla hit the woodwork for Mosta with a direct freekick.
Mosta levelled matters on the 32nd minute when Zachary Brincat intercepted a back pass by Cain Attard and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Giacomo Nava.
Four minutes later, the Blues notched the winner when a Clayton Failla freekick was not held by Nava and Jacob Akrong hit home from close range.
