Valletta return to winning ways

After four defeats and two draws in the last six matches, Valletta returned to winning ways as they defeated Balzan 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

A win which lifts Valletta to nine points, five points behind Balzan. For the latter, this was the third match without a win following two back-to-back draws.

The Citizens took the lead on the 13th minute when off a Oke Akpoveta cross, Kilian Bevis headed home.

Balzan equalised on the 36th minute courtesy of Uros Ljubomirac who beat goalkeeper Alessandro Guarnone following an assist by Angel Torres.

Valletta, however, regained the lead on the 65th minute courtesy of Oke Akpoveta who headed the ball home off a Brandon Paiber corner.

One minute in added time, the Citizens sealed the issue thanks to a goal by Shaun Dimech whose direct freekick gave Jonathan Debono no chance.
