Floriana leapfrogged Gudja United into fifth place as they defeated them 3-0 in a direct clash at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Following two narrow wins over Zebbug Rangers and Santa Lucia, the Greens managed to build a comfortable two-goal lead by the end of the first half, adding another during the second half.
Gudja, who lacked central defensive duo Andre Prates and Juan Bolanos, have now suffered a fourth defeat in five matches and this international break is definitely a blessing in disguise.
Floriana were unlucky not to take the lead on 32 minutes as Kemar Reid hit the foot of the upright with a shot from the edge of the area but four minutes later, Alejandro Garzia put the Greens ahead with a diagonal shot from the right when served by Kemar Reid.
Three minutes from the end of the first half, Floriana doubled the score courtesy of Owen Spiteri whose volley gave Glenn Zammit no chance following a Jan Busuttil corner from the right and an Emiliano Callegari header, deflected by a defender.
Floriana threatened once again with a Kemar Reid header which hit the upright on 76 minutes but a minute later, they scored the third goal as Emiliano Callegari was quick to intercept the ball when goalkeeper Glenn Zammit was about to kick the ball and lobbed over Zammit from outside the area.
Gudja were reduced to ten men three minutes from time as Neil Micallef received a second yellow card.
