Pembroke Athleta registered a second win in Group A of the Izibet Amateur League as they defeated Ta’ Xbiex 6-2 in one of two matches at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.
Shamison Farrugia put Ta’ Xbiex ahead on the 8th minute but Weverton Gomes equalised on the 16th and an own goal handed Pembroke the lead on the 22nd with Gareth Buttigieg making it 3-1 on the 31st. Gomes increased the lead on the 49th and Xylon Marmara added another one minute later. Matthew Fenech reduced the gap on the 86th but Matt Brimmer made it 6-2 on the 90th.
Meanwhile just two days after forcing Tarxien Rainbows to extra-time in the Izibet FA Trophy, Kalkara United only managed to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Sta. Venera Lightnings thanks to a goal six minutes in added time courtesy of Andrea Hammett. Matthias Vella had put the Lightnings ahead on the 35th.
Senglea lead the way with 22 points, followed by Zabbar on 21, Mgarr 16, Kalkara 14, Birzebbuga 13, Sta. Venera 10, Qormi 9, Xghajra 8, Pembroke 6, Mellieha 3 and Ta’ Xbiex 0.
