Sliema Wanderers regained the top spot in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Marsaskala 5-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves put the Wanderers ahead on the 12th and Lydon Micallef doubled the score on the 29th. Goncalves scored again on the 31st and Micallef scored his second goal on the 68th with Jake Engerer making it 5-0 on the 72nd. Dario Aquilina scored a consolation goal for Marsaskala two minutes from time.
Zejtun Corinthians defeated Swieqi United 3-0 in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium to move back in second place. Andre Carlos Penha da Costa opened the score on the 23rd and James Brincat made it 2-0 three minutes from the end of the first half. One minute in added time, Caique da Silva Santos sealed the issue with a third goal.
Zurrieq collected another three precious points thanks to a 5-2 win over neighbours Qrendi at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Xylon Portelli put Zurrieq ahead on the 35th and Bydasser Sammut doubled the score a minute later. Four minutes in the second half, Joao Vitor de Oliveira Florencio made it 3-0 and although Claudo Antunes Pavlidis reduced the gap on the 66th, Joao Felipe Silva Estevam Aguilar scored a fourth goal for Zurrieq on the 77th. Mattias Formosa scored a second goal for Qrendi five minutes from time but two minutes in added time, De Oliveira Florencio made it 5-2.
At the Centenary Stadium, Marsa and Tarxien Rainbows shared the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 draw. Following a goalless first half, Darren Falzon put Tarxien ahead on the 46th but goals by Lucas Ribeiro de Oliveira on the 63rd and Justin Grioli on the 65th turned the score in Marsa’s favour. Tarxien equalised through Angel Antonio Correa Rojas on the 69th and two minutes later, Emmanuel Mbong made it 3-2 for Tarxien. However, Marsa notched the equaliser through Ryan Fenech on the 90th.
Sliema lead the way with 32 points, followed by Zejtun on 30, Naxxar 29, Tarxien 22, Melita 21, Zurrieq 20, Fgura, Lija and St. Andrews 18, Marsa 15, Swieqi and Attard 13, San Gwann 12, Marsaskala and Vittoriosa 10, Mtarfa 8, Qrendi, and Mqabba 7.
