Izibet Amateur League: Narrow win for Senglea over Mgarr

Senglea Athletic claimed three precious points as they registered a narrow win over Mgarr United at the Luxol Stadium in one of the matches from Group A of the Izibet Amateur League on Saturday.

Steven Meilak scored the all-important goal on the 67th.

Zabbar St. Patrick share the top spot with Senglea following a 3-1 win over Pembroke Athleta at the Sirens Stadium. Shalon Diacono put Zabbar ahead on the 34th and although Weverton Gomes equalised on the 61st, Andre Joe Cutajar restored the lead for Zabbar on the 77th with the same player sealing the issue three minutes later.

Qormi defeated Ta’ Xbiex 5-0 at the Sirens Stadium. Thomas Grima and Ryan Sciberras handed Qormi a two-goal lead with goals on the 5th and the 10th with Jake Peplow increasing the lead on the 68th, Iro Curmi scoring a fourth goal on the 71st and Alex Nilsson adding another on the 75th.

An Aidan Agius Gilford hat-trick on the 16th, 41st and 47th handed Xghajra Tornados a 3-1 win over Mellieha at the Luxol Stadium. Jean Pierre Debono had equalised temporarily for Mellieha on the 34th.

Joshua Farrugia scored six minutes from time to give Birzebbuga St. Peter”s a narrow win over Kalkara United at the Luxol Stadium.

Zabbar and Senglea lead the way with 28 points, followed by Mgarr on 23, Kalkara 20, Qormi 18, Xghajra 17, Birzebbuga 16, Sta. Venera 10, Pembroke 9, Mellieha 6 and Ta’ Xbiex 0.

Meanwhile in Group B, Dingli Swallows held Ghaxaq in a 1-1 draw at the Sirens Stadium. Ryden Gatt put Ghaxaq ahead on the 62nd and Lee Grech levelled matters six minutes from time.

Msida lead the way with 20 points, followed by Gharghur and Rabat on 17, St. George’s 16, Luqa 15, Kirkop 14, Ghaxaq 11, Siggiewi 8, Dingli 5, Mdina 4.
