Izibet Amateur League: Senglea move two points clear

Senglea Athletic moved two points clear in Group A of the Izibet Amateur League as they defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Timmy Thomas put Senglea ahead on the 2nd minute and Aidan Azzopardi doubled the score on the 12th. Wayne Borg made it 3-0 on the 58th and on the hour Timmy Thomas sealed the issue with a fourth goal.

Zabbar St. Patrick were held in a 1-1 draw by Kalkara United at the Luxol Stadium. Jean Paul Formosa opened the score on the 73rd and seven minutes later, Shalon Diacono levelled matters for Zabbar.

At the Sirens Stadium, Mgarr United defeated Pembroke Athlete 3-0. Christian Saint Ebisindor put Mgarr ahead five minutes in the second half. Julian Camilleri doubled the score on the 77th and four minutes later, Saturday Nanapere made it 3-0.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Qormi and Mellieha earned a point each in a 2-2 draw. Malcolm Vela Vidal put Mellieha ahead on the 19th minute but Gary Bugeja levelled matters two minutes later and Alex Nilsson turned the score in Qormi’s favour on the hour. However, Jack Vella notched the equaliser for Mellieha five minutes from time. 

Senglea lead the way with 31 points, followed by Zabbar on 29, Mgarr 26, Kalkara 21, Birzebbuga and Qormi 19, Xghajra 17, Sta. Venera 10, Pembroke 9, Mellieha 7 and Ta’ Xbiex 0.
