WSG Tirol, SV Sandhausen to contest Tipsport Malta Cup 2023 final

WSG Tirol of Austria and SV Sandhausen of Germany will be contesting the final of the Tipsport Malta Cup 2023 after winning the respective groups on Tuesday.

In Group A, WSG Tirol defeated AS Trencin of Slovakia 3-1 thanks to a better goal difference than Slovan Liberec of the Czech Republic. In fact, following a 1-1 draw between WSG Tirol and Slovan Liberec in the opening match, the latter defeated Trencin 2-1.

Ibrahim Rahim put Trencin ahead one minute in the second half but a Sandi Ogrinec penalty restored equilibrium on the 77th with Justin Forst putting Tirol ahead on the 85th and extending the lead two minutes in added time.

On the other hand, in Group B, SV Sandhausen ended their commitments with maximum points thanks to a 2-1 win over FC Trinity Zlin.

Dominik Simersky put Trinity Zlin ahead on the 17th minute but a Kerim Calhanoglu penalty levelled matters five minutes from the end of the first half and six minutes later – in added time – Janik Bachmann made it 2-1 for the German second division side.

On Thursday, WSG Tirol and SV Sandhausen will be facing each other in the final at the National Stadium, kick-off at 16:00.

The final for third and fourth place will be played between Slovan Liberec and Trinity Zlin will be played at the Tony Bezzina Stadium at 11:00 while AC Trencin and Spartak Trnava face each other in the match for fifth and sixth place at the National Stadium at 12:00.
