Izibet Amateur League: Senglea march on in Group A

Senglea Athletic march on in Group A of the Izibet Amateur League thanks to a 3-0 win over Pembroke Athleta at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday.

Timothy Thomas put Senglea ahead on the 7th minute and Aidan Azzopardi doubled the score on the 17th. Nine minutes in the second half, Wayne Borg sealed the issue with a third goal.

At the Luxol Stadium, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s came from behind to beat Qormi 3-1. Nathan Gauci put Qormi ahead on the 27th but Keith Muscat equalised on the 43rd and goals by Yessous Camilleri on the 49th and Leon Camilleri four minutes later handed Birzebbuga the three points.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Ta’ Xbiex earned their first point thanks to a 1-1 draw with Sta. Venera Lightnings, goals by Sean Ellul on the 3rd minute for the Lightnings and Nicholas Scicluna for Ta’ Xbiex three minutes later.

Senglea lead the way with 34 points, followed by Zabbar on 32, Mgarr 29, Birzebbuga 22, Kalkara 21, Qormi 19, Xghajra 17, Sta. Venera 11, Pembroke 9, Mellieha 7 and Ta’ Xbiex 1.

Meanwhile in Group B, Gharghur were held in a goalless draw by Ghaxaq at the Sirens Stadium.

Msida lead the way with 24 points, followed by Rabat on 23, Gharghur 22, Luqa 21, Kirkop 17, St. George’s 16, Ghaxaq 15, Siggiewi 8, Dingli 5 and Mdina 4
